Looking at Stats

leave a comment »

I have not even visited this blog for months, so it is interesting to look at the all-time stats. There’s the list of referrers, and I see visits which I know aren’t from myself and probably aren’t from people I know, they aren’t from search robots siphoning up the web. Does it matter whether these people know who I am, whether I know who they are?

I found some interesting stuff looking through the links, like this one about crisis mapping. I’d never heard of crisis mapping, but I am interested in GIS, especially as relevant to the project I’m doing now. When I see their work I think this makes sense, it’s great that someone is applying software tools to manage crisis situations;  it’s not that there aren’t smart people figuring these things out, it’s just that a lot of people, myself included, never knew this work had been done. That’s why the internet exists, that’s why people put out this stuff on blogs and websites and why it is so important that they do put it out there for anyone to see.
